Dear Friends and Guests,
Springtime is blooming in Andalusia!! This season holds more carnivals, ferias and historic ceremonies than any other season of the year. As the countryside comes alive with vibrant colors, the villages and towns are all buzzing with various events, most of which are based in ancient cultural traditions. If ever there was a time to experience the beauty and romance of Andalusian culture- it would be in Springtime. It is a time of great religious celebrations such as during the Holy Week (Semana Santa), an event that literally transforms the towns across this region. Or rejoice in the beauty of traditional Spanish horsemanship during the world renowned Jerez Horse Fair. And, if just pure relaxation is more appealing, then a stroll along the long stretches of white sandy beaches might be exactly what you need. Springtime evokes a sense of new beginnings and new promises; we hope you all get a chance to experience this incredible season in one of the most beautiful areas in the world - Andalusia.
.
Kind Regards,
Oliva

Before the lazy days of summer arrive, springtime can be the best time for discovery and exploration. Here are some suggestions for where to go and what to explore nearby:

|
Tarifa is the southernmost town in Europe with spectacular views of North Africa and the Rif Mountains. The atmosphere here is young, cosmopolitan and trendy with the surf culture influencing everything from shops to bars and restaurants. This is the mecca for European windsurfers & kitesurfers. Day trips to Morocco are available from the Port of Tarifa.
Cádiz is one of Spain’s oldest cities and filled with incredible history. There are guided tours of the old part of Cádiz where you can see the Cathedral, the Cádiz museum and the Plaza Topete (the market and shopping area in the old town).
Bolonia beach and Roman Ruins. Besides having one of the most idyllic beaches in the region, Bolonia is also known for the Roman Ruins of Baelo Claudia. The ruins are the remains of the ancient fishing and whaling community that once lived there.
The town of Barbate has a fishing tradition which dates back to Roman times. Today the fishermen use the same method for catching fish as they did in the 13th century. Barbate is famous for the superb Tuna catches during this season, making it ideal for seafood lovers as there is an abundance of fresh fish offered in all the local restaurants.
Seville is a spectacular city, where everyday is a joy, whether walking through the ancient streets or by the river, sampling tapas, admiring monuments, climbing the Giralda Tower or just relaxing under the orange trees. A wonderful introduction is to take a horse drawn carriage from the Cathedral, the biggest Gothic building in existence around the Maria Luisa Park.
Jerez is best known for its Sherry bodegas. Visits to the bodegas may be arranged in advance (tour guides all speak English). Another must see is the famous Jerez Horse School (Real Escuela Andaluz de Arte Equestre) with breathtaking performances every Thursday.
Gibraltar is only an hour away and you can step back into old Britain. See the sites such as the famous Barbery apes, the marina, cable car and of course, the rock itself. Historically and geographically unique and well worth a visit.
Vejer, it must be mentioned that the cuisine or gastronomy in Vejer enjoys an extremely good reputation. The town offers a variety of restaurants, bars and cafes, each offering its unique culinary treasures. You can find traditional restaurants in the area and at the same time experience others featuring “nouvelle coucine”. Also, Vejer counts amongst its international restaurants: French, Portuguese, and Moroccan cuisine.
