Live at La Fonda...
Well known around town since the mid-1980s for the passionate, flamenco-inflected guitar duo he led with brother Juan (as the Bermudez Brothers), Juan Bermudez Jr. returns to La Fonda to play an evening of instrumental music of the melodic, listening type, rather than the venue’s usual danceable covers.
“I like music that’s challenging for the players and intriguing and enjoyable for the listeners,” says Bermudez, who has played nearly all the Santa Fe hotels over the years with a long list of top players. He says his music has evolved to incorporate the sounds he likes and listens to, from instrumental jazz to Latin, folk, and classic rock.
He remembers happy hour at La Fonda in the 1990s, where he had a regular gig for a dozen years. “I would come to perform and have a full load of people in there, and just be so happy to walk into a venue like that in downtown Santa Fe and have a whole journey ahead with the audience,” he says with characteristic emotion.
