Jenny's View Dear Friends,
The first-ever Gran Fondo was modeled on a similar event in the Napa Valley, where cycling chefs have become a trend. Four chefs will be hosting gourmet food stations along a 45- or 75-mile cycling route through the beautiful villages of Nambe, Cundiyo, Truchas, and Chimayo. What a perfect excuse to tuck in! It’s getting back on the bike that will be the true test of endurance.
Fall happens to be the ultimate season for cycling in New Mexico, with blue skies and perfect weather. Santa Fe is known for its bike-friendly trails, whether your tires are fat or skinny, and local bike clubs welcome visitors on their weekly rides, including the wonderfully named Pedal Queens (for women) and Santa Fe Seniors on Bikes (or SOBs, as they call themselves). Annual events on the fall cycling calendar include the MS 150 crossing five northern Pueblos, Enchanted Circle Century from Red River, Tour de Acoma around Sky City, Tour of the Rio Grande Valley in Albuquerque, Santa Fe Gourmet Classic (another food ride!) and Albuquerque’s Day of the Tread, complete with Halloween costumes and sopaipilla aid station.
With every healthy edible imaginable piled high at the farm markets this month, I don’t need to remind you that veggies and fresh fruit won’t be missing on the Green Chile Cheeseburger Trail!
Beep beep,
Jennifer Lea Kimball
