Jenny's View

Dear Friends,
It’s hard to say whether Georgia O’Keeffe had a greater impact on New Mexico, or on art in the modern era. She definitely married the two forever in our minds so that it’s impossible to see Abiquiu for the first time without seeing it through her eyes. As an art lover, I especially appreciate how she introduced so many women to art through her unapologetic expression of the world as she saw it.
So much of O’Keeffe’s work is tied to the New Mexican landscape, that while exploring the state –especially the northern regions—one is always lead back to her images of it. This month, in honor of her 125
th “birthday,” the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum hosts a number of events that celebrate the artist’s life. Even if you are not a fan of art, Modernism, or landscapes, it’s worth exploring how and why northern New Mexico, we are proud to say, is often called “O’Keeffe Country.”
Sincerely,
Jennifer Lea Kimball
